Volunteers of the Year

A big congratulations to Shelbi, our Financial Captain, and Travis, one of our very valued team mentors, for getting honored for their volunteer work in Columbia County this school year. Travis was praised for his dedicated work with GET SMART, while Shelbi went on to become the County Youth Volunteer of the Year. We are extremely proud to have these two on our team, and are looking forward to seeing what else our team members can achieve this year!

Friday Night Mochi’s

One of our many pubic fundraisers is happening tomorrow night at Mochi’s off of Highway 90, next to Moe’s. Treat yourself to a frozen yogurt, and come out and support us! Our Public Relations team will be there to answer any question, we hope to see you there!

FRC Goes to FLL

This past weekend, 3 members of GET SMART traveled to Orlando, Florida, to help direct the FIRST LEGO League, a robotics program specifically designed for 9-16 year olds to help them get more excited about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) subjects. They returned back to Lake City ready and excited for Competition in March! Team 3556 is working hard and looking very forward to seeing everyone and competing next month! Be ready!

Monday Night Moe’s

On Monday, January 27, GET SMART will be having a Moe’s Night at Moe’s on US 90 from 6 PM to 9 PM. A portion of the profits from within that time will go to our team, which will then be used for robot parts and competition. We hope to see you there!

Come Out and Support Us!

Team 3556 will be having a Mochi’s night to fund raise money for our expenses on February 7th, from 6 PM to 10 PM. If you come out and support us then you will receive a coupon at the door and a 10% discount off your purchase. We will also have a booth at the local Olustee festival downtown, on February 14th and 15th. Our off-season [t-shirt shooting] robot, Magnum PSI will also be attending this event. On either of these events, our team will be more then happy to answer any questions about GET SMART, FIRST, or robots. We hope to see you there!

Meet Magnum PSI!

Group Picture Homecoming (old)

If you’ve been keeping up with this website, then you have probably heard a lot about the famous Magnum PSI…now’s your chance to meet him!  Magnum PSI is our off season project that GET SMART designed in the summer of 2013. The entire design, construction, and development took around 3 months, and Team 3556 is extremely pleased with their results. Magnum PSI was designed to shoot off t-shirts and confetti while getting the word out about FIRST. Magnum PSI traveled to local elementary schools and football games, including the Homecoming parade and game, meeting, greeting, and teaching community.

LEGO My Robot!

Mrs. Crews’s Engineering Technology 2 & 3 are having a blast with the new Tetrix and LEGO Mindstorms kits! The students are not only learning how to build these bots, but also how to program them using the programming language LabVIEW. They have more exciting projects still yet to come. Stay tuned!

Thank You Atkins!

We are proud to thank Mr. Shawn Justice, P.E. of the engineering firm Atkins, for presenting us with a $5,000 check Tuesday night at the Columbia County School Board meeting. This donation will be very helpful and we look forward to showing Mr. Justice that this money will be put to good use!
